As I begin this Blog-a-thon I confess to the same sentiments as expressed by Will Durant in both his The Story of Civilization and The Lessons of History. I begin with unmitigated doubt about its value, especially when considering the disposition both of the world and my reaction to that disposition. Nonetheless, allow me to soldier onward.
